Today
we celebrate Pentecost Sunday! Since Pentecost is the Birthday of the Church,
it is one of the most exciting days in our Christian Year. It is the time when
the disciples no longer feared but were energized to proclaim the good news of
God’s love through the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the
empowerment of the Holy Spirit. The universal Church
celebrates Pentecost, the fulfillment of Jesus’ promise of the Holy Spirit, 50
days after Easter. Jesus
promised His apostles that He would send them the Holy Spirit to empower them
to be His witnesses to the ends of the earth.
