Today’s Gospel is the beautiful story of the Transfiguration
of Jesus – How God reveals himself to us.
Matthew tells us that Jesus took with him
his three beloved disciples Peter, James, and John to a high Mountain, apart
and in their presence, he was transfigured. When he was transfigured before
them, his face shone like the sun and his garments became white as snow. Moses
the greatest law giver and Elijah the greatest prophet of Israel come to the
side of Jesus and talk to him about his passion and death. For Jesus this was a
special moment as he took his friends with him to help them have a
glimpse of his glory. The disciples were
with Jesus when they heard, “This is my beloved son in whom I am well pleased,
listen to him.”
So now we are in Week 2 of our Lenten journey -- how is Lent going
for you? As Christians we are called to
enter the encounter where we don’t have all the answers. We are called to grow in our relationship
with God. Called to remember that Jesus
is present in the midst of all that is going on. God is always with us.
As we reflect on Jesus'
transfiguration in today's Gospel, we see a
glimpse of our own conversion. We are invited to an inner change that can transform our
lives completely. The Gospel must be the focal
point of our lives. Finally, we need to pray and listen to what God says
and remember that the very desire to pray be a gift from God. The
first step is to walk with the Lord.
